Meat Institute Comments for the Salmonella Framework for Raw Poultry Products -- Proposed Rule

The Meat Institute is the nation’s oldest and largest trade association representing packers and processors of the majority of U.S. beef, pork, lamb, veal, turkey, chicken, and processed meat products. The Meat Institute provides regulatory, scientific, legislative, public relations, and educational services to the meat and poultry packing and processing industry. Together, Meat Institute members produce the majority of U.S. beef, pork, lamb, and poultry products in the United States.

Consumer health and safety are the driving forces for our members in the production of meat and poultry products. Salmonella has been, and will continue to be, a high priority for the meat and poultry industry. Contrary to statements made by industry critics, packers and processors are not “asleep at the wheel,” but alert and focused on Salmonella; implementing intervention strategies and dedicating time and resources to identify new methods for control.
