Committees
The Meat Institute is governed by a Board of Directors and an Executive Committee that receive recommendations and technical guidance from committees. These committees convene regularly to share information and strategies around key areas. Involvement is open to all members.

Animal Welfare Committee
The Animal Welfare Committee monitors and evaluates animal handling and welfare policies, regulations, and initiatives affecting the meat and poultry industry. It develops science-based guidelines and training programs that promote responsible animal care, ensure regulatory compliance, and reflect the industry’s commitment to continuous improvement. The Committee provides expertise, resources, and recommendations to support member companies in advancing ethical and practical approaches to animal welfare.
Cybersecurity Committee
The Cybersecurity Committee serves as a strategic forum for member collaboration on cybersecurity issues impacting the meat and poultry industry. It facilitates the exchange of knowledge, identifies and develops cybersecurity resources, and monitors and analyzes relevant policy initiatives. The Committee works to enhance preparedness and resilience across member companies
Food Safety & Technical Affairs Committee
The Food Safety & Technical Affairs Committee develops actions, recommends policies, and provides resources on matters related to food safety and inspection. It evaluates scientific and regulatory issues with potential impact on the meat and poultry industry and formulates evidence-based recommendations to inform the Meat Institute’s regulatory, public affairs, and advocacy priorities. The Committee provides leadership in advancing food safety, protecting public health, and fostering consumer confidence in meat and poultry products.
Human Health and Nutrition
The Human Health and Nutrition Committee engages nutrition, scientific, and policy experts to assess diet, health, and wellness issues relevant to the meat and poultry sector. The Committee serves as a forum to guide initiatives that advance evidence-based nutrition, strengthen food security, and promote public health. Through science-driven leadership and strategic policy engagement, the Committee works to ensure the essential role of meat and poultry in healthy diets and resilient communities.
Legal Committee
The Legal Committee provides a forum for legal professionals within member companies to exchange insights, share best practices, and engage on legal issues impacting the industry. It facilitates discussion of regulatory and litigation developments, such as Packers & Stockyards rules and environmental regulations, and provides member input into the Institute’s legal strategies. The Committee also develops guiding principles to shape participation in industry-related litigation.
Sustainability Committee
The Sustainability Committee brings together people from across the meat industry to share ideas and work on practical ways to reduce environmental impact and communicate progress. By meeting regularly, the group tackles challenges, creates helpful tools, and encourages better practices that take care of the environment while keeping the industry strong.
Workforce Experience Committee
Workforce Experience Committee represents the diverse voices of Meat Institute member companies on matters related to labor and employment. It provides a collaborative forum for dialogue and action on workforce challenges and opportunities across the industry. The Committee supports continuous improvement in the workforce experience by sharing best practices, developing resources and training, and recommending policies that promote safe, respectful, and resilient workplaces. Its work enhances workforce satisfaction, retention, and development, strengthening both employee well-being and industry excellence.
